Just a few months ago I started designing my own crochet patterns. It’s already been a whirlwind journey!
I love making new things and sharing them with all of you. It keeps me on the lookout for new ideas and I’ve always got crochet on the brain.
I thought it was high time that I shared my very first crochet pattern with you, Cornelia the Unicorn. She’s so cute and I can’t wait to see how you customize her in your own unique way.
Let’s get crafty!

Before Beginning:
*This pattern is written in U.S. terms.
*This project is worked in rounds. You will need a stitch marker or a scrap of contrasting color yarn to mark the beginning of your rounds.
*Your total stitch count will be in parentheses at the end of every row. This will help you to keep count of your stitches and make sure the finished product looks right. Chains and Slip Stitches do not count as stitches.
*I recommend crocheting over your yarn tails to make less work of weaving in ends when finishing off your work. You can find tutorials online or follow the instructions provided.

Pass White yarn between both eyes and pull slightly to indent the eyes and shape the face. Finish Off and weave in all ends.
For the nostrils, use scraps of black yarn to make 2 x-shaped stitches over Round 6 with 5 stitches between them. They should line up with the eyes.
Optional: Use black yarn to make 2 short stitches to the sides of the eyes to create eyelashes. You can also use a little bit of pink yarn to make two short stitches below the eyes to make little cheeks.

Finish Off, leave a tail about 6 inches long for sewing the Horn to the Head. Center the Horn between the Ears and Eyes and sew it in place.
Assembly
I highly recommend using straight pins to get the arms/front legs and back legs into place before you sew them on permanently. Sew the arms/front legs and back legs towards the front of the body to help your pony sit up unassisted.
The back legs should be level with the bottom of the body and the front legs should be positioned between them, the tops meeting the shoulders at a slight angle.
Use a table or a large book to help you gauge where all the parts should go, a flat base is important.
Using the extra long tail of yarn you made, attach the head to the top of the body. Pass the tail through the bottom of the head, right where the neck should join the head.
Using short stitches, sew back and forth from the head to the body to create the neck. The head should wobble only very slightly.
Make sure your stitches are small and tight to prevent too much wobble. Finish off and weave in all ends.

Tail
Using Caron Simply Soft in Watermelon, Harvest Red, Super Duper Yellow, Limelight, Blue Mint, Grape and Red Heart Soft in Tangerine.
Chain 21, leave a long tail on each end for sewing. Knot the end of the chain. Tie all 7 colors together in a simple knot, sew knot to base of unicorn body.
Mane
Using Caron Simply Soft in Watermelon, Harvest Red, Super Duper Yellow, Limelight, Blue Mint, Grape and Red Heart Soft in Tangerine.
Chain 11, leave a long tail on each end for sewing. Knot the end of the chain.
Forelock
Using Caron Simply Soft in Watermelon, Harvest Red, Super Duper Yellow, Limelight, Blue Mint, Grape and Red Heart Soft in Tangerine.
Chain 11, leave a long tail on each end for sewing. Knot the end of the chain.
Attaching the mane/forelock
Taking your Forelock colors, sew them just behind the Horn and pull them forward to fill out the entire mane.
To sew on the Mane, start at the base of the Forelock and sew the Mane chains next to each other in pairs down the middle of the head. You should finish up right at the base of the head.
Once your Unicorn is complete you can make anyone’s day magical! Be sure to share the unique colors in your unicorn.

Have an awesome day!
