Mountain Range Crochet Pattern
Hello all!
It’s time for another pattern! There seems to be something in the water (or maybe I’m just at the right age) but it seems like every time I turn around there’s another baby announcement on Facebook or a baby shower invitation in the mail. That means more opportunities to make adorable baby stuff!
BABY STUFF!!
C’mon, admit it. Even if you don’t have a kiddo of your own, it’s still fun to cruise the baby aisles. Looking at teeny tiny shoes is my absolute weakness. My Happy Raptor has long feet, and in the beginning she was so chubby that socks wouldn’t fit, let alone those adorable tiny shoes. But I digress.
A big trend that I’ve seen is woodsy/outdoorsy/lumberjack style nursery decor, and I love it! Watercolor mountain prints, red flannel blankets, adorable wood block decor and even more. It just makes you wanna snuggle up under a comfy blanket and gaze at the mountains. I think the finishing touch is a decorative support pillow for the nursing chair. However mama (or daddy) decides to feed baby, you can be sure they’re gonna need some lower back support, and this awesome pattern checks both of those needs off the list. Let’s get crafty and spread some love (and lower back support)!
You can get an inexpensive and printer-friendly version of this pattern here.

Notes before starting:
*This project is worked in rows to produce two panels that will be crocheted together to create the unique 2D look of a crochet ragdoll pillow.
*Your total stitch count will be in parentheses at the end of every row. This will help you to keep count of your stitches and make sure the finished product looks right.
*Color changes will happen frequently in this project. It will look better in the finished product if you can crochet over your tails and carry the yarn underneath to make your work as clean as possible. There are several tutorials on YouTube to help beginners master and intermediate crocheters to brush up on these techniques.
*Remember to carefully align your Peaks before you crochet them all together. It’s very easy to put one Peak on backwards and not realize it until the very end.

For Panel 1, Finish Off and weave in the end. Weave in all mountain peak ends and set Panel 1 aside.
Repeat the instructions to make Panel 2, being sure to pull up a loop at the end of Panel 2 and follow the assembly instructions below.
Assembly
When Panels 1 and 2 are complete, place both panels together, matched up with Panel 2 on the top and pick up your big loop of Grey Heather left from the end of Panel 2. Sc all the way around the outside edges of the Mountain Range, being sure to change color as needed. (See tutorial below) When you come to corners or peaks ch 1 and Sc in the same Sc to give better definition to the points. Stop when you arrive back at the bottom edge and firmly stuff the peaks with polyester stuffing before you continue. Take care not to over stuff and distort the shape of the peaks. Continue Sc along the bottom, stop about 2 inches before your starting point and firmly stuff the rest of the Pillow. Using a stuffing stick, a chopstick, or a pencil can help you with those hard-to-reach places. Sc along to your starting point and Sl st to the first Sc. Finish off and weave in all ends.
When crocheting around the outside to join your panels together, you will need to change color to the snow on the peaks and back again. Here’s the way I did it.
Stop one stitch away from the intended color change. Go through the motions of a regular Single Crochet. Insert your hook, yarn over and pull through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Instead of continuing with the same color yarn, grab your other color and create a small loop about 1-2 inches long. Place this end over your hook and carefully pull the new color through the two loops on your hook.
Now, using the new color on your hook, arrange all of your tails onto the side of the panels and Single Crochet over them. This will help you to anchor your new colors and hide the tails of your work so you don’t have to weave them in later. It gives a cleaner look and is less work overall. After about 8-10 stitches, snip the old color and continue working with your new color.
Continue working in your new color until you have to change colors again.
Congratulations! You completed a fiddly project and probably learned a couple new things to boot. You can proudly gift this to someone expecting a bundle of joy, or keep it for yourself for guests to ooh and ahh over.
Have an awesome day!
